Lunuganga Gardens

Geoffrey Bawa’s garden within a larger garden Lunuganga is tucked away behind a steep dust road in Bentota. It is a haven for both local and foreign traffic and a respite for Sri Lanka’s varied natural world. Bawa bought the previous plantation in 1948 intending to create something that would be fashioned via his present and destiny dreams and imagination. The plantation was originally for rubber and cinnamon. See how he converted the area from a plantation to a lawn eschewing the exploitative colonial practice in favor of a rich ecosystem home to endemic animals and plants.

Bentota Beach Hotel

Jetwing Lighthouse

Visit the Jetwing Lighthouse! Its eclectic mix of Moorish Oriental and Dutch effects is painted throughout from the centrally located mind-blowing spiral staircase to the façade entrance that resembles a rampart. Throughout Geoffrey Bawa, the most renowned architect in Sri Lanka used distinctively rustic color schemes.
